AI lessons promised for government school students through an Adobe partnership

In December 2025 the Education Department said about one crore students in Classes 6 to 12 of government schools would study AI from the 2026-27 session, with some schools starting sooner, under Adobe's digital education programme, and that it had signed an MoU with Adobe about three months earlier. In March 2026 a Bhagalpur report said the plan, by then described as AI for Classes 6 to 8 with AI labs in 28,426 middle schools and one trained teacher per school, would not start in 2026-27 because labs, trained teachers and content were not ready. In August 2026 Adobe named Bihar among seven states where it had signed MoUs to give schools free Adobe Express and AI-skills material. No source reports any student or teacher trained.

Good to know: An MoU with Adobe is reported by the press and by Adobe, but no teaching, training or lab has been evidenced, and a March 2026 report says the 2026-27 start will be missed.

What's confirmed

5 facts backed by sources

  • In December 2025 Hindustan reported the Education Department's plan to teach AI to about one crore students in Classes 6 to 12 of government schools from the 2026-27 session, with selected schools to start in the current session.
  • The same report said the department had signed an MoU with Adobe about three months earlier, that a course was being prepared, and that the agency would supply equipment and trainers and give one teacher per school basic training.
  • In March 2026 Dainik Bhaskar (Bhagalpur) reported that the department had issued an instruction on AI teaching on 6 January, and that labs, trained teachers and digital content were not ready, so AI teaching for Classes 6 to 8 would not start in 2026-27. A regional deputy director of education said the department was working on it.
  • In April 2026 Times Now reported an MoU between the Education Department and Adobe giving Classes 6 to 12 students and teachers free Adobe Express Premium, implemented in stages.
  • In August 2026 Adobe said it had signed MoUs with Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Assam, Bihar and Tamil Nadu covering PM SHRI, CM SHRI, KGBV and other government schools (company statement).

Still to be confirmed

7 things to watch for

  • The MoU's date and text. It was 'to be signed soon' in September 2025, signed 'about three months' before December 2025, signed 'last year' per March 2026, reported as signed in April 2026, and announced by Adobe in August 2026. These are treated as one MoU; whether the April 2026 report describes a second signing is not clear.
  • The scope. Classes 6 to 12 and about one crore students (September and December 2025) became Classes 6 to 8 in the March 2026 report. Both are recorded; neither is preferred.
  • Whether the 2025-26 pilot in selected schools happened. No report of it was found.
  • Anyone trained. One crore students is a target, one trained teacher per school is a target, and AI labs in 28,426 middle schools is a target as reported; no count of students taught, teachers trained or labs built has been published.
  • Bihar's share of Adobe's 7.8 million students and teachers, which is a company figure for all seven states.
  • What 'AI education' means here: an AI curriculum (the December 2025 report lists machine learning, data analysis and language processing) or use of Adobe Express's generative-AI design tools (Adobe and Times Now). Sources describe both.
  • The text of the 6 January 2026 instruction and any cost to the state.
